My family was part of Newman before it had its own building. We used to worship in the Susanna Wesley Methodist building across University Avenue. Fr. Dan Dever gave me my First Holy Communion. I went to Maryknoll grade school, and public school, and am a Roosevelt HS grad. While getting my BFA degree, I started to work at the Honolulu Academy of Arts (now Honolulu Museum of Art) and stayed there for over 25 years. I have also taught art in public and private schools on Oahu. Besides God, and my daughter, I love my family, and all kinds of animals and
plants, and art and books. I returned to Newman about 6 six years ago. I hope my service here will be pleasing to God and helpful to our community.

I happily taught 3rd and 4th grade on Molokai but I still needed more education, so I moved to UHM to get my Master’s in Education.  While studying, I enjoyed Bible Studies, Seder Meals, and Newman fellowship.  I studied in Salzburg, Austria, yes- I was on the mountain that was filmed and at the top of my lungs sang- “The Hills are Alive…”  I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Kiribati (our direct island neighbor a boat ride south of Hawaii).  I was an AmeriCorps VISTA Leader here on Oahu.  I’ve been a Music Manager for Platinum artists.  I’m a Generational Master Beekeeper, yes- I get stung daily and still love nature.  I love Pizza!  My favorite color is green.  Ask Me Anything.

This year, we get to grow as a Newman community.  I’m honored to be part of the journey.  Our parish is dedicated to the Holy Spirit, we get to focus our energies on helping students, while they work on their education, discern their vocations.  Our hope is that they bring more Social Justice, Peace and Compassion to the world.  We want to give social and spiritual activities to bring about change in the lives of people around us.

I like the community that is brought together over pizza or a family cooked meal at our Wed night or Sun night evening masses.  Not everything has to be pre-planned all the time.  We can have those moments we share that helps us learn about another person but also helps us get some clarity in our own concerns.  I really am one of those shy people, I will listen and listen- until someone asks, if it is something I am passionate about- then I am able to shine.  I think we need more and more of those small opportunities to shine both as shy and confident people- our small group.
